Prosecutors said Tuesday they have raided the offices of a defense company and a state defense agency suspected of making illegal deals in the trade of defense equipment.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said LIG Nex1 provided defective equipment used to assess the performance of anti-tank guided missiles to the Agency for Defense Development between 2012 and 2014, which cost more than 8 billion won ($6.7 million) in total.

The agency is suspected of overlooking faulty parts.

Out of the equipment, one device that prosecutors suspect ADD purchased from LIG Nex1 for 1.1 billion won is used to measure the destructive capabilities of weapons.

The agency also reported that they received 11 units that allow tanks to be remotely controlled but were found to have only seven, the prosecutors added.

Prosecutors said they have confiscated hard disks and documents regarding the supply of the equipment from five companies and organizations involved.

The raid is part of the prosecution's investigation into corruption in the defense industry.

A special investigation team -- comprised of government, military and prosecution officials -- has cracked down on corruption in the industry after a series of shady deals came to light over the past year. (Yonhap)
