Korean game developers are striving to increase their footholds in the global market in the face of fierce domestic competition.
Netmarble Games, the No.1 mobile game firm by sales, which has so far released more than 100 mobile games, said it would make all-out efforts to win in the mobile game race.
“Cutthroat competition is inevitable in the world’s mobile game industry as major console and PC game developers, such as Sony, Disney and Blizzard, with big cash piles are tapping into the mobile game sector in earnest,” said Bang Jun-hyuk, founder and senior adviser of Netmarble Games, said at a media event in Seoul on Wednesday night.
“Netmarble Games’ title as the No.1 mobile game firm in the domestic market means little. The company should become a global powerhouse,” he added.
It was the first press event held in several years where the Netmarble founder and eight other top executives of the Korean firm all gathered to talk about the firm’s history and business strategies to infiltrate global markets before more than 100 reporters and journalists.
The company said it would release at least 31 new mobile game titles by the first half of next year, including role playing games “IDEA,” “Knights of Night (KON),” “Soul King” and “Epic Saga.” It also plans to release RPG hits “Raven,” and “Seven Knights” and publish some games developed by other local game firms.
Bang said that Netmarble Games would also announce a merger plan with global game companies in two or three weeks.
The company will be strengthening its partnerships with global game firms such NCSoft and Disney to conduct joint projects.
It has been putting the final touches with Disney on the upcoming release of mobile board game “Everyone’s Marble Disney.”
The original version of “Everyone’s Marble,” which has surpassed 100 million downloads since its launch in 2013, raked in 400 billion won ($384 million) in gross revenue as of last month.
After its action role-playing game Marvel Future Fight, featuring Marvel Comics’ fictional superhero team, the Avengers, has garnered worldwide popularity, Netmarble Games is planning to develop other mobile games based on U.S. entertainment firm’s comics.
