Samsung Electronics Co. is presumed to be putting more focus on its latest smartphone, the Galaxy S6 Edge, the variant of the Galaxy S6, documents showed Thursday, as it won a trademark for the "S6 EDGE+" earlier this week.

According to the documents posted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Samsung Electronics has won the trademark, which indicates that the South Korean tech giant may roll out an updated edition of the quirky flagship smartphone that has drawn keen attention from consumers.

Officially launched in April, the Galaxy S6 Edge was initially considered an upbeat sister of the flagship Galaxy S6 by boasting the industry's first screen that is curved on both sides. It was an upgrade from the Galaxy Note Edge, which has a curved screen on only one side.

Despite the first Galaxy Note Edge receiving a dull reaction from the market, Samsung's latest experiment was a hit, with demand outpacing supply for a few weeks after the launch. The Galaxy S6 lineup boasts Samsung's first built-in wireless-charging batteries.

While no other details were given regarding the "S6 EDGE+," industry watchers said it may indicate a larger-screen edition of the Galaxy S6 Edge, just as Apple Inc. added "Plus" for bigger editions. The Galaxy S6 Edge boasts a 5.1-inch display.
