Daum Kakao, the operator of South Korea’s No. 1 mobile messenger KakaoTalk, said Tuesday it has launched a new video call feature for its popular app service that allows users to chat face-to-face with their KakaoTalk friends. With Wi-Fi connections, users can make unlimited video calls regardless of their smartphone operating system ― be it Google Android or Apple iOS.

KakaoTalk now offers texting, voice and video call services.

“We hope the inclusion of video call will enhance intimacy among friends, family and significant others, allowing them a new and vivid connection,” said Derrick Park, KakaoTalk’s lead project manager.

Together with the voice call feature, KakaoTalk also introduced a backup and restore service that allows users to backup past KakaoTalk conversations on their mobile device and restore them upon reinstallation of the app.
