South Korea's No. 2 tech giant LG Electronics Inc. said Wednesday it will launch its latest flagship smartphone, the G4, starting later this month in China through an online commerce site.

LG Electronics said the G4, first showcased in April, will be sold through JD.com, or Jingdong Mall, in China.

The move came as around 80 million smartphones will be sold via online platforms in China in 2015, LG said, citing an estimate compiled by industry tracker Strategy Analytics.

The G4 models to be sold in China will allow users to use two universal subscriber identity module (USIM) cards.

The device will also run on the long-term evolution network provided by three local mobile carriers: China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom.

The slightly curved G4 comes with the same 5.5-inch in-plane switching QHD display as that of its older sister, the G3, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Processor with X10 LTE, and runs on Google Inc.'s Android 5.1 Lollipop.

It also comes with a camera whose performance is equal to that of a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera with a performance of 6 megapixels. Another significant feature of the G4 is its leather case, different from the metal body adopted by Samsung Electronics Co.'s Galaxy S6. (Yonhap)
