The organizers of the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang said Monday they have launched a separate entity to operate test events.
Tentatively named "PyeongChang Winter Series Foundation," the new entity will work closely with representatives of PyeongChang and national federations for winter sports, the organizing committee said in a statement.
In its inaugural meeting earlier Monday, the foundation elected Cho Yang-ho, head of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics organizing committee, as its ex officio chairman of the board.
Olympic host cities stage test events as their final preparations before the Olympics. The PyeongChang organizers said 28 international competitions will be held at the proposed Olympic and Paralympic venues between February 2016 and April 2017.
"Considering that the first test events will be held next February, there isn't much time left," Cho was quoted as saying at the meeting. "Now it is time for all of us to come together and gear up for Games preparations. I feel the burden on my shoulders, but I will use that as positive impetus and put forth my best efforts to make each event a success." (Yonhap)
