Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's leading automaker, said Tuesday that it has unveiled its all-new Tucson sport utility vehicle (SUV) at a motor show in Geneva in a bid to expand its presence in the fast-growing European SUV market.
The Tucson is being showcased at the Geneva International Motor Show, which runs until March 15, along with other vehicles including the new i20 coupe, i30, i40 and ix20, all designed to target the European market, according to the automaker.
"We will accelerate our push in the growing SUV market by launching sales of the all-new Tucson in the second half of this year in Europe and the United States, following its debut this month here in Korea," Hyundai Motor said in a press release.
The new version of the Tucson adopted Hyundai Motor's family look of a large hexagonal grille that connects to the head lamps.
It also has a "futuristic" and "trendy" appearance by emphasizing horizontal lines and widening the rear combi lamps.
Inside, the car uses so-called human-machine interface intended to minimize distraction while driving through easy-to-use and intuitive design, the company said.
The Tucson is 4.47 meters from bumper to bumper, 1.85 meters wide and 1.64 meters high with a wheelbase of 2.67 meters. The car is longer and wider but lower than the previous version, helping it sport an "agile" image.
Hyundai Motor said it put an emphasis on minimizing emissions and enhancing the overall efficiency for the car, while equipping it with diverse safety features including autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection and a smart parking assist system.
In order to strengthen its foothold in Europe's B-segment market, Hyundai Motor also said it plans to start selling the new three-door i20 coupe next month, while launching sales of the other i-series vehicles during the first half of this year. (Yonhap)
