LG Electronics Inc. unveiled Tuesday its latest organic light-emitting diode and new quantum dot TVs for this year, vowing to expand its global presence with the two-pronged lineup strategy.
  

The company, ranked No. 2 at home and a rival to Samsung Electronics Co. in home appliances, said it plans to release 10 OLED models in 2015, twice the number it had rolled out last year. 
  

The Ultra OLED TV has integrated both the color accuracy and a high resolution -- two key elements found in existing OLED and ultra high-definition TVs -- which will bring a superior display quality, LG said.
  

The 65-inch model will be available at 10.9 million won ($9,830) in Korea, with a 55-inch to be priced at 6.9 million won.
  

Kwon Bong-seok, the head of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Division, said the company will beef up efforts to raise its share in UHD TV market to over 20 percent this year with the Ultra OLED lineup.
  

"We've been getting better yields for the OLEDs, at a faster pace than what we saw in the LCD production. I'm sure the Ultra OLED will quickly gain in price competitiveness."
  

Kwon forecast the UHD TV market to account for about 15-20 percent of the entire global TV market, equivalent to 30 million units.
  

LG Electronics also revealed its first quantum dot models, which are built with a film of a nanostructure, or quantum dot, that can reproduce far more colors than existing LCDs and cost less to make than OLEDs.
  

LG plans to market 11 new models, including 79, 65, 55, 49 and 43-inch versions in 2015, as it goes after a larger slice of the high-end TV segment.
  

LG's new quantum dot TV has been named the Super Ultra HD TV on home soil, while it will be referred to as Prime Ultra HD TV in offshore markets, the company said.
  

In Korea, the 65-inch Super Ultra HD TV will be sold for 7.4 million won, while the 55-inch model will be available at 5.2 million won.
  

The new models will be as slim as 8.5 millimeters with a frame 4.7 mm wide and have improved resolution and features compared with the previous Ultra HD TVs.
  

LG said it will also promote the Web OS 2.0 platform on its smart TVs that comes with new remote controls that bring up customized contents on screen when pointed at the right edge. The platform enables the TVs to sync with other smart devices. (Yonhap)
