Yoseob of K-pop idol group BEAST has joined the Korean rendition of the German musical “Das Musical Robin Hood.”

He will play the protagonist Prince Phillip, sharing the role with Kuhyun of idol group Super Junior and musical actor Park Sung-hwan.

“It was difficult to play a role that requires (one) to be childish,” said Yoseob at a press event in Seoul on Friday.

“Contrary to my image, I am not immature,” he said with a smile, adding that he learned how to be childish from the two other actors sharing the role of the young heir.

Kuhyun also admitted that he tried his best to look like a naive teenager who is clueless about the world around him.

“I never regarded the two actors as idol group members,” said the director Wang Yong-beum, who has helmed a series of critically acclaimed musicals in the past, including “Zoro,” “The Three Musketeers” and “Jack the Ripper.”

“They were musical actors like all other actors on the stage who practiced hard.”

Musical actor Lee Kun-myung, who takes on the role of Robin Hood, said the musical was a story of hope and courage. “It still speaks to today’s audiences very well.”

Along with Lee, actors Uhm Ki-joon and Yoo Joon-sang will play the role of Robin Hood.

Based on the original German production by Andrea Friedrich and Hans Holzbecher, the musical is about a revolution led by Robin Hood and Prince Phillip.

The Korean rendition runs through March 29 at D-Cube Arts Center, which is connected to Sindorim Station. Ticket prices range from 60,000 won to 130,000 won. For more information, call (02) 764-7857.
