Fingerprint sensor maker CrucialTec’s biometric trackpad module was picked as one of the world’s leading tech products by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the state-run Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency on Monday.

The South Korean company’s BTP is a fingerprint recognition sensor, adopting the so-called nano packaging method, which allows the sensor to be slimmer and easily mounted on other products such as smartphones. The BTP can be utilized for various types of fingerprint scanners such as swipe, area and touch-type.

The Korean firm provides comprehensive solutions along with the fingerprint sensor, which incorporates integrated circuits, algorithms and packaging technology.

CrucialTec also developed an algorithm to make an ultraslim BTP, coated with crystal ceramic materials that give the fingerprint modules twice the durability of crystal glass.

In 2009, the fingerprint sensor manufacturer was also recognized by the Korean government for its optical trackpad, an optic-based navigation device used in BlackBerry’s handsets and others.

“The latest recognition by the government reaffirmed the company’s global competitiveness and technology superiority,” said an official from the firm. “The firm will continue to lead the market with innovative products.”

Seeing an opportunity in the growing Chinese biometric market, CrucialTec has recently been expanding its partnership with Chinese smartphone- and TV-makers such as Huawei and Haier.
