CJ Group, the nation’s largest food-maker, said Thursday that it received a global award for activities for creating shared value, or CSV.
The company was the first Korean winner of the CSV Porter Prize. The Institute for Industrial Policy Studies, the Korean partner for the award, hosted the award ceremony at Sheraton Grande Walkerhill in Seoul.
The award was named after management guru Michael Porter, a professor at Harvard University, who first proposed the concept of “creating shared value.”

CJ Group was recognized for already having developed a number of CSV projects on a group level, targeting opportunities to create profits while contributing to society.
Since the company vice chairman Lee Chae-wook declared to add CSV into the group’s core management strategies, the company has developed a variety of CSV programs for all of its affiliates such as CJ CheilJedang and CJ E&M.
CJ Group was also praised for systematic and quantitative CSV programs.
“We will continue to communicate with vulnerable groups in our community and to keep on creating shared values to pursue sustainable growth,” said Lee at the ceremony.
“We will put more efforts into contributing to society by revitalizing the economy and becoming a company respected by everyone.”
