Samsung Electronics Co., South Korea's tech bellwether, rolled out a new Android-based mirrorless camera Wednesday, the latest to join the premium shooter lineup.

The NX1 has a 28 megapixel resolution, the highest in a commercial camera with a Back Side Illuminated (BSI) sensor, allowing a clearer and more natural photo shooting in the dark.

The camera features built-in Wi-Fi that enables users to share images with one another via social networking services (SNS). It provides an interchangeable lens mount, as reflected in the term "mirrorless," instead of having a reflex optical viewfinder.

The NX1 touts a frame rate of 15 fps with a shutter speed of 1/8,000 second that allows for rapid and consecutive shooting, Samsung said.

It is priced at 1.69 million won (US$1,526) for the body and 3.09 million won for a value pack that includes a 16-50mm S lens, a vertical grip, a battery and a recharger. (Yonhap)
