POSCO Engineering & Construction Co., South Korea’s third largest builder, said Wednesday that it has developed a new three-dimensional measuring system for stylish, atypical structures that are being built in greater numbers around the world.

The system built in cooperation with POSCO A&C, a wholly owned architecture and consultancy unit of the builder, makes use of information technology breakthroughs to transform physical measurements of buildings made by engineering them into 3-D images that are highly accurate and easy to check.

The programs for making the measurements, which are very precise, are being patented, the company said.

Atypical buildings, because of their unconventional shapes have led to leaks and cracks due to builders not being able to correctly follow the design instructions. Such defects are usually found in bad weather conditions, causing delays and costly repair work to be carried out.

“The latest method comes in very handy and can help do away with such problems,” the company claimed. (Yonhap)
