South Korea’s No. 2 tech giant, LG Electronics Inc., said Monday it has expanded its crackdown on the sale of fake headsets, adding it will also seek compensation for attempts to violate its copyrights.

The company said the move came as its Bluetooth-powered LG Tone Plus, or HBS-730, which boasts a “memory-flex neck strap with magnetic ear buds,” is being copied by a handful of companies around the globe.

“With the LG Tone Plus being popular at home and abroad, we have detected some cases of infringement,” an LG official said. “Any attempts to violate the copyrights of LG’s brand, technology and design shall be eradicated under cooperation with state investigators.”

LG said it has recently also busted a Chinese firm based in Shenzhen that has circulated rip-offs of LG Tone Plus headsets and arrested representatives of the company. It has also caught one U.S. firm that sold fake headsets.

Authentic products must have a hologram sticker, as well as logos of the Federal Communications Commission and the Korea Communications Commission, LG said, adding users must pay particular attention when making purchases.(Yonhap)
