South Korea won gold in women's volleyball at the Asian Games for the first time in 20 years with a 3-0 victory over defending champion China Thursday.
South Korea beat China 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-21) in the gold-medal competition held in Songnim Gymnasium, snapping the opponent's Asiad winning streak at four.
Star spiker Kim Yeon-koung scored the match-best 26 points to help the team take revenge on the 3-2 defeat in the final against China at the Guangzhou Asian Games four years ago.
In the meantime, South Korea also defeated China 70-64 to claim the gold medal in women's basketball at the Asian Games on Thursday.
With tenacious defense, South Korea snapped China's Asiad winning streak at three and captured its first Asian Games gold in the sport since 1994 in the process.
South Korea took a 54-52 lead into the fourth quarter and then opened the final frame on a 10-0 scoring run over the first six minutes.
Beon Yeon-ha's baseline jumper made it 66-53 for South Korea with about three minutes left, and Sin Jung-ja's layup put the host up by 15 with two minutes to go.
China tried to eat into South Korea's lead but ran out of time at Samsan World Gymnasium.
Beon led the team with 16 points and went 3-of-7 from downtown.
Sin chipped in 14 points and brought down five boards.

China led 35-33 at halftime, and the two teams were tied at

South Korea held China scoreless for nearly six minutes in the fourth quarter, with Kim Dan-bi, Yang and Sin wreaking havoc on the Chinese defense.
The consecutive buckets by Beon and Sin with the clock ticking down gave South Korea plenty of breathing room, even as China tried to narrow the gap to no avail.
