The Gwangju International Center is running a GIC Culture tour to Jindo Island, South Jeolla Province, on Oct. 25.
The tour will stop at a marine energy park before moving on to Yongjangsa Temple and Yongjangsanseong Fortress, a fortification made in the Goryeo period (918-1392) that was used as a base for a rebellion against a peace treaty signed with the Mongols in 1270.
The next stop will be lunch at a viewpoint near the islands “Moses Miracle” causeway. A 2.8-kilometer-long road opens at low tide here just a few times a year, although this won’t be one of them.
The tour will then look around Ullimsanbang, a picturesque traditional house that was home to artist Heo Yu during the 19th century.
After stopping at a factory that makes a traditional local wine called hongju, the group will visit the Jindo Dog Center before heading back to Gwangju.
The tour runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and costs 55,000 won for GIC members and 65,000 won for nonmembers. To join, register via gic.or.kr by Oct. 19.
