When South Korea and Thailand clash in the men’s football semifinals at the Asian Games on Tuesday, something has to give: Neither team has given up a goal in five matches so far.
On the eve of the showdown at Munhak Stadium in Incheon, South Korean head coach Lee Kwang-jong said his team will end Thailand’s shutout streak.
“Thailand is a skilled team with good organization,” Lee said at a pre-match press conference.
“But since we’re playing at home, we’re quite determined to win.”
South Korea eked out a 1-0 win over Japan in the quarters on Sunday, while Thailand defeated Jordan 2-0.

South Korea is trying to win its first Asiad gold in men’s football since 1986.
Lee threw down the gauntlet, saying South Korea will be the toughest foe for Thailand in Incheon so far.
“Thailand played weak teams such as the Maldives and Timor-Leste in the group stage, and I think that’s why they haven’t given up a goal,” Lee added.
“In tomorrow’s game, it will be a much different story.”
The coach also said Thailand has some skilled players but instead of focusing on individual players, South Korea will try to put pressure on the entire Thai offense.
“Our players are mentally prepared for the match,” he added.
“We’re playing at home, and we haven’t won a gold at the Asian Games for a long time.
“The players may be a bit nervous, but I am going to ask them to enjoy themselves on the field.” (Yonhap)
