South Korean archers will take aim at their familiar gold medal parade at the Asian Games, which reaches its midway point on Saturday.

South Korea will compete in the women’s and men’s compound finals at Gyeyang Asiad Archery Field and aims to occupy the top podium positions.

The men’s team takes on India, while female archers, who set a new world record in the quarterfinals, will confront Chinese Taipei in the gold-medal match.

They will also continue their attempts for a gold medal sweep at the individual compound finals.

In the evening, baseball will be in the spotlight.

After wrapping up the flawless group round, South Korea will face China in the semifinals for a berth in the final slated for Sunday.

Track and field events will get under way on Saturday, with 47 gold medals at stake.

Promising South Korean sprinter Kim Kuk-young is expected to earn the country’s first medal in the men’s 100-meter race in 36 years.

He will team up with Yeo Hosua, Oh Kyong-soo and Cho Kyu-won to try to seize South Korea’s first gold in the 4x100 relay in 28 years.

Wrestlers are gearing up to make a rebound from the disappointing results at the 2010 Guangzhou Asiad, where they ended up with no gold medals.

Reigning Olympic champ Kim Hyeon-woo and former world champion Ryu Han-su will lead the campaign, along with dark horses Kim Young-jun and Lee Se-yeol. (Yonhap)
