South Korea has arranged a conference on coordinating with major countries over pending labor issues in South and Central America.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor said Monday that a senior level committee meeting of the Inter-American Development Bank will be held at the Grand Hilton Hotel in Seoul on Sept. 25.
“As an extraordinary case, the annual conference has been arranged not in the United States but in Korea this year,” said the ministry. “Korea is scheduled to share its know-how in the public employment services segment with the South and Central (American) economies.”
Korea became a member of the IDB in 2005. The institution has 48 member countries and is a global entity to support Latin American society.
Participants are likely to include ministers, vice ministers and other high-ranking officials from 17 countries and a group of staffers from the IDB headquarters, said the ministry.
Labor Minister Lee Ki-kweon will deliver a keynote address at the opening of the conference. He plans to explain the failures and successes of the nation’s hiring policy in the public sector over the past decade.
Meanwhile, Korea is scheduled to take on the chair for the general meeting of the IDB in March 2015, the 10th anniversary of its membership.
The general IDB meeting will be held at BEXCO in Busan.
