Samsung gets accreditation for virtual reality headset

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. recently obtained government certification for its virtual reality headset, a state agency said Tuesday, creating a buzz that the new product may be showcased at the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin next month.
The National Radio Research Agency, a state-run institution under the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, said it has recently granted the world’s top maker of smartphones a radio wave certificate for the product named “Gear VR,” with model number SM-R320.
Industry watchers said Samsung may showcase the model at the IFA, along with other wearable lineups such as the Gear Solo, the company’s first wearable device equipped with its own universal subscriber identity module card that will make it possible to make calls without being linked to smartphones.
Samsung declined to comment on the new product or provide other specifications.
“While we are aware of such rumors, we cannot provide details on which new products will be showcased at the event,” a Samsung official said, adding it can only confirm that the Galaxy Note 4 will be introduced at the fair.
