The Hollywood blockbuster, costarring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman, soared to the top of the box office in North America. The movie was released there on July 25.
“Lucy” also topped the box offices of Australia, Bulgaria and the Netherlands in the first weekend of its release.
So far, the film has earned more than $100 million worldwide.
The film is set to hit more international theaters starting with Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and Japan this week. It will land in Korea on Sept. 4 with high hopes of raising profits to $200 million.
One of the key elements to the movie’s success is attributed to its original, creative script, which is not based on an existing novel or television show.
