The 9-year-old groom and 62-year-old bride
A 9-year-old boy and a 62-year-old woman from South Africa have held a second marriage ceremony in order to make the ancestors happy, according to the Daily Mail.
The boy had had a previous wedding ceremony with the woman last year. This second ceremony took place at the bride’s home with 100 guests.
It’s already surprising that the two, who could pass as grandson and grandmother, would marry. But what’s more shocking is the reason behind the wedding -- the ancestors told them to.
The parents of the boy said he “took the message from heaven seriously” and quickly arranged the first marriage. The boy said he wanted to hold the second one to make it official.
The bride is already married to a 67-year-old man and has children ranging from 28 to 38 years old. The children are older than the groom.
The marriage is not legally binding, but just a ritual to make the ancestors happy, according to the groom's mother.
“It’s just a play for the ancestors and after the marriage the two are going back to their daily life and don’t live together,” she added.
The boy wanted the marriage and was “happy about the ceremony.” But he did say he hopes to marry a girl his own age when he gets older, the report said.
