This year’s edition of the Super Sonic music festival, slated to bring legendary English rock band Queen and other renowned acts to South Korea next month, has been reduced to a one-day event, according to organizers.

Super Sonic 2014 will now take place on Aug. 14 at the Auxiliary Stadium at Jamsil Sports Complex. The festival had originally been scheduled to take place from Aug. 14-15 at Olympic Park.

“We moved the festival’s location to Jamsil Sports Complex to acquire a larger stage and space for more fans. With the change in venue, the event will take place for one day only,” said the festival organizer 9ENT.

Industry officials speculate that a change in this year’s Super Sonic organizers likely prompted the sudden changes in the event’s date and venue. This structural shift was also reportedly a reason for the absence of public announcements regarding ticket sales in the previous months, despite the fact the lineup had been mostly confirmed.

This year’s Super Sonic will be headlined by Brian May and Roger Taylor of the iconic English rock band Queen ― known for their classic hits “We Are the Champions,” “We Will Rock You” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”― together with popular “American Idol” season eight runner-up Adam Lambert singing as the band’s honorary lead vocalist.

Grammy-winning French alternative rock band Phoenix, known for its distinctive sound and style that combines hard rock with synth pop, will be making its way to Seoul again to perform at the festival.

Other acclaimed foreign acts including English rock band The 1975 and American singer-songwriter duo A Great Big World, as well as local bands No Brain, Crying Nut, Sultan of the Disco and Gateflowers will also perform.

Tickets for Super Sonic 2014 are currently available on Interpark and YES24 and are priced between 165,000-240,000 won; a 20 percent discount is available until July 22 on both ticket websites. A total of 11,000 general tickets are available for 99,000 won on SKT Membership Chocolate, available only to SKT members online.
