피오트(38), 바바라(39) 마졔브스키 남매는 치매 걸린 엄마 이레나(75)가 악마에 의해 지배되었다고 믿어 고문과 폭행으로 숨지게 했다.
그들은 죽은 아빠가 악마와 엄마 사이의 매개체라고 믿었으며 악마가 엄마의 영혼을 차지하려고 했다고 경찰에게 진술했다. 악마를 집에서 내쫓으려고 했으나 실패하여 엄마 얼굴에 십자가를 붙이고 성수를 마시게 하는 등 “본격적”인 엑소시즘(exorcism, 악력을 쫓는 의식)을 행했다고 전했다.
마졔브스키 남매는 엄마를 침대에 묶은 후 종교적 의식을 행한 뒤 엄마가 악마와 죽은 남편과 접촉이 없다고 말하자 무차비한 고문 및 폭행을 가했다.
이 나라의 민간신앙에 따르면 악령들은 겁쟁이들이기 때문에 고통을 가하면 참지 못하고 사람의 몸에서 달아난다고 한다.
부검 결과 엄마는 부러진 갈비뼈, 뭉개진 턱 그리고 극심한 뇌외상에 의해 사망하였으며 남매는 살인죄로 12년형 선고를 받았다.

A pair of Polish siblings killed their mother suffering from Alzheimer’s because they believed she was possessed by demons, according to the Daily Mail.
Majewski siblings Piotr (38) and Barbara (39) believed her mother Irena (75) was overrun by demons and tried to force them out by torturing and beating her, the report said.
They believed that their dead father’s soul connected their mother and the devil. They stated to the police that the devil was after their mother’s soul. The siblings tried to demolish the evil spirits from the house at first, but as they believed they failed, they began with a “complete” exorcism. They put a cross on their mother‘s head and forced her to drink holy water.
The Majewski siblings tied her mother to the bed and performed religious rituals. As the mother stated that she had neither contacted her dead husband or the devil, the siblings started to beat and torture her.
According to the country’s traditional believes, demons are cowards and try to escape the human body when force is applied because they can’t stand it.
The 75-year-old mother died with broken ribs, a shattered jaw and serious brain trauma. The siblings were sentenced to 12 years in prison.
