Hyo-yeon, a member of K-pop group Girls' Generation, has undergone questioning by police on suspicion of hitting a male acquaintance after a practical joke went awry, police said Tuesday.
Seoul's Yongsan Police Station called in Hyo-yeon for questioning after the man, whose identity was withheld, filed a report accusing the singer of striking him in the face at a mutual acquaintance's home on Sunday.
"The man did not sustain any injury," said a police officer close to the investigation, adding that the 25-year-old is not expected to face any charges.
The alleged assault occurred when the man tried to restrain Hyo-yeon after she pretended she was going to jump out of a balcony, the officers said.
The group's agency, SM Entertainment, released a statement saying that the incident was the result of a misunderstanding and that she will be cautious in future.
Hyo-yeon, whose full name is Kim Hyo-yeon, is one of nine members of Girls' Generation. The group recently swept online charts both home and abroad with its fourth mini-album, "Mr. Mr." (Yonhap)
