Hanwha Engineering and Construction Corp., one of South Korea’s largest construction firms, said Wednesday that it has won a $24 million solar power plant order from Jordan.

The deal was signed last week in the capital city of Amman between the builder and Jordan’s National Electric Power Company, the company said in a press release.

The plant will to generate 12 megawatts of electricity to be used by 5,000 households in the Middle East country. The site for the plant is in the Ma’an area located some 200 kilometers south of the capital.

The project, the first solar power generator order secured by a South Korean construction company in the region, is part of the larger Independent Renewable Power Plant program being pursued to generate clean renewable energy. (Yonhap)
