Korea Aerospace Industries, the country’s sole aircraft manufacturer, said Friday it secured a 730 billion won ($680.1 million) order to build the main wing parts for Boeing’s popular B787 Dreamliner passenger jets.

The deal is an extension of orders secured by the company in 2005 and calls for the delivery of main wing structures for 1,000 planes starting this year and running until 2021.

The fuel-efficient jet is currently the U.S. aerospace giant’s standard bearer with hundreds of planes having been ordered by airlines all over the world.

KAI is in charge of engineering and design as well as production of the main wing parts of the highly fuel-efficient plane. The parts are mostly made up of lightweight but strong composite materials.

The company said the deal marks a good start as it aims to secure 7.7 trillion won worth of orders in 2014.

Of the total, 3 trillion won will come from parts manufacturing with the rest being linked to the development of the light attack helicopters program, the next generations fighter jet project and sales of aircraft such as the FA-50 to the Philippines and an additional sale of KT-1 prop-driven basic trainers.
