South Korea’s tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. is anticipated to roll out its next Galaxy smartphone lineup, presumably the Galaxy S5, at the annual Mobile World Congress slated for later this month.

The world’s top smartphone maker said Tuesday it will hold the “Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 1” event in Barcelona, Spain, on Feb. 24. It said it will introduce new mobile devices but did not provide further details.

Samsung’s press release, however, carried a blue stamp showing a box being unpacked with the number five written on the right, implying the new device would be the much-awaited Galaxy S5.

Samsung usually unmasks its new Galaxy smartphones in the first quarter of the year. The company unveiled the Galaxy S4 in March 2013.

The next Galaxy smartphone is expected to have a 5.2-inch quad HD screen plus features such as finger screening or eye detection.

Samsung also plans to participate in the Integrated Systems Europe 2014 this week, where it will roll out its 110-inch Ultra HD Large Format Display, the industry’s largest.

The displays are designed to be used in restaurants, hotels, airports and offices to provide real-time information such as menus, weather and other TV content that can be connected to laptops and tablet PCs.

The company said its “Samsung Smart Signage Platform” will lend support to its expansion in the global signage market, which is expected to grow 20 percent every year through 2017. (Yonhap)
