A South Korean national was released by gunmen in Libya Wednesday, three days after being captured, according to an embassy official.

Han Seok-woo, the chief of the Libya unit of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), was abducted in Tripoli by four Libyan gunmen on his way home.

The Libyan government is protecting Han and the South Korean Embassy in Libya will soon get custody of him, the official said.

"It has been confirmed that there is no problem with Han's health," the official said. "The Libyan authorities arrested the kidnappers."

It has not been determined yet when Han will return to South Korea, added the official.  (Yonhap News)
