Luxury, sports cars shine at auto show

DETROIT (AFP) ― Luxury vehicles and powerful sports cars stole the spotlight on the second day of the Detroit auto show Tuesday.

Here are the highlights of what was unveiled in Motor City at the premier U.S. auto show.

Toyota’s luxury Lexus brand introduced a performance version of its powerful RC coupe ― the RC F ― fitted with a V8 engine with 450 horsepower, 383 pound-feet of torque and an attention to styling and detail that includes an F pattern in the mesh of its grill.

Nissan’s luxury Infiniti brand showed off a high-performance prototype of its Q50 Eau Rouge featuring carbon fiber bodywork, Formula One-inspired aerodynamics and an aggressively hunkered stance.

GM unveiled its first compact luxury coupe with the Cadillac ATS, which has a wider and more aggressive stance that the four-door version and a lighter build that allows for a more powerful pickup.

Honda’s luxury Acura brand revealed a prototype of the TLX performance sedan. Set to hit showrooms mid-year, the carmaker describes it as a “red carpet athlete” infused with a race car spirit.

Subaru unveiled a flagship performance model, the WRX STI, which will be limited to just 1,000 models and incorporates elements from the now-defunct Impreza WRC rally car.
