“LG has to get itself ready for the automotive parts business as the transition from traditional vehicles to smart cars utilizing electronics technology is accelerating,” Koo said after visiting the exhibition wing for the vehicles.
The company has long been preparing to jump into the automotive sector, as it is currently capable of manufacturing large auto parts including displays and car semiconductors.
LG is reportedly seeking to secure a contract with global carmakers, including BMW and Mercedes-Benz, according to sources.
The vice chairman also visited LG Display’s exhibition venue at the Bellagio earlier in the day, according to the Korean electronics firm.
The visit was a rare one for the top LG executive, the brother of LG Group owner Koo Bon-moo.
