LG International’s board of directors appointed Lee Hee-beom, the company adviser and chairman of the Korea Employers Federation, as its new CEO and vice chairman, the company said Friday. He is scheduled to begin his term in January.

Lee is known to have extensive expertise in resources and overseas business, with four decades of experience in politics, government and industry. He has served as an adviser to LG International since June.

The new head holds a bachelor of science in computer engineering from Seoul National University and earned a master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University.

He served as industry minister from 2003 to 2005, and chairman of STX Heavy Industries, STX Construction and STX Energy from 2009 to 2012. He previously worked as chairman of the Korea International Trade Association.

“Lee’s expertise is expected to help raise the company’s profile in the areas of resources by presenting new visions and securing future growth engines,” LG International said.
