The Pony Chung Foundation has awarded scholarships to 60 students at Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh.
Chung Mong-gyu, chairman of the foundation, presented the scholarships to 30 students at the Hanoi campus on Wednesday and 30 at the Ho Chi Minh campus on Thursday.
“I would like to introduce my late father’s pioneering spirit to Vietnam,” Chung said at the scholarship awarding ceremony.
The foundation has so far awarded scholarships to a total of 380 students in Vietnam alone. The award covers one year of tuition and subsidies for living expenses.
Pony Chung is a moniker referring to Chung Se-yung, founder of Hyundai Motor Co., who blazed the trail in the Korean automotive industry with the company’s first car model “Pony.” The foundation was established in 2005 by donations from Chung Mong-gyu, chairman of Hyundai Development Co., to memorialize his father.
