KT Corp., the nation’s second-largest mobile carrier, and KTSAT, its affiliate specializing in satellites, together donated $200,000 in relief funds for the victims of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, the company said in a press release Friday.
The donation will be used mainly to provide the victims with relief goods and aid the restoration of damaged areas.
KTSAT also provided a free emergency satellite communications network.
“I hope that the Filipino victims who are suffering from the horrendous typhoon disaster will quickly find hope and get back on their feet as soon as possible,” said Pyo Hyun-myung, the acting president of KT. “KT, being a global enterprise, will continue to lead the way in the practice of sharing and volunteer work in the future.”
This is not the first time KT and KTSAT have given aid to those in need. KT donated 500 million won ($471,000) and KTSAT provided satellite service for an emergency communication network to Japan in 2011 after the severe earthquake and tsunami.
Additionally, KT’s official volunteer group visited Rwanda last month to provide IT education in Africa.
