Lydia Ko, a New Zealand golfer born in South Korea, made Time magazine’s list of the world’s 16 most influential teenagers of 2013.
The online edition of Time mentioned her second after fellow New Zealander, 17-year-old singer-songwriter Lorde. However, the magazine did not say whether it listed the teens in order of influence.
The 16-year-old Ko has multiple LPGA wins, turning pro this year after the LPGA waived the age requirement for her.
She is already fifth in the women’s world rankings after just 23 tournaments. She’s the youngest person ever to win a professional golf tour event and the youngest person to win an LPGA tour event. Ko is the only amateur to ever win two LPGA Tour events.
As an amateur, she never missed a cut in 25 professional tournaments. She played seven majors starting with the 2012 U.S. Open.
Her best result in the LPGA majors is second place in the 2013 Evian Championships.
The list has two sports players, with the other being Missy Franklin, an 18-year-old U.S. swimmer who won six gold medals at the 2012 Olympics.
The list includes Malala Yousafzai, 16, a Pakistani activist who was shot in the head for promoting girls’ education under Taliban rule; Canadian singer Justin Bieber, 19; and Malia Obama, 15, the daughter of U.S. President Barack Obama.
