Expats in Daegu are invited to “Throw the D’art” with a new cultural event in front of Kyungpook National University on Saturday.

The event, organized by the Daegu Green Consumers Network and the I Love Daegu Citizen Association, is an effort to create relationships between local young artists and foreigners.

“Through this network, we look forward to consistent activation of culture and art activities in Daegu,” the organizers said.

The stage events for “Throw the D’art” will start at 4 p.m. with a performance by Expression, Kyungpook’s spoken word club.

The events will be followed by the Gil-Big project, which gets its name from a contraction of the Korean words for “street” and “big band.” The project is put together in support of a planned Comfort Women History Hall. Expat and Korean musicians have been holding jam sessions, with another planned for Thursday, in preparation for the main performance on Saturday.

Additional performances include drama from the Kyungpook National University Play Club, American rapper Skizzo, who performs in Korean, and music from the JJJs.

Side activities leading up to the festival will also be held on the day. Expats and Koreans will get together to paint murals in a special zone in front of the university, focusing on Daegu-related images.

There will also be a group bike ride around starting at Suseong Bridge. The group will cycle along a three- to four-hour course, arriving at Kyungpook National University in time for the main festival. Lunch and drinks will be provided to cyclists who join, but participants must supply their own equipment, including a helmet.
