The three-day CEO Conference of the Association of the Electricity Supply Industry of East Asia and the West Pacific, or AESIEAP, was launched on Monday at Coex InterContinental Hotel in southern Seoul, said the Korea Electric Power Corp., the organizer of the event.

KEPCO CEO Cho Hwan-eik made an opening speech as the AESIEAP president. Cho will serve as the association chief for the next two years.

Under the theme of the role and responsibilities of the electric power industries to make a smart and green society, participants in the AESIEAP CEO Conference will exchange expertise and technology in the electricity supply industry during the event, while fostering cooperation with one another, KEPCO officials said.

The event attracted not only executives from about 40 AESIEAP member firms from 19 countries, but also officials from local electricity suppliers, including small and mid-sized players, that are looking for business opportunities to step up their entry into the Asian power market, the organizer said.

Korea will also host the Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry, another AESIEAP event, in October next year in Jeju, KEPCO said.
