POSCO Engineering & Construction, the construction subsidiary of the nation’s largest steelmaker POSCO, developed an all-in-one insulation system jointly with local companies and Ewha Womans University.

By connecting a lightweight vacuum insulator to interior finishing material, POSCO E&C had improved its construction capacity and speed, as well as the heat-insulating function of its buildings, officials said.

The vacuum insulator had been known for its thinness and light weight but has not yet been manufactured due to its weak resistance to shock and friction.

The integral insulating system, which is 99 percent recyclable, also won a Certificate of Green Technology from the government, officials added.

“We will continue to lead the green technology market and meet global consumer demands on eco-friendly construction,” said Kim Hyun-bae, the company’s executive director for research and development.

The new insulating system, along with other energy-saving technology, will be applied to “The Sharp Green,” a new residential apartment complex to be launched next year, according to officials.
