Outdoor clothing franchise The Red Face on Thursday started a 30 percent discount event on all its products ahead of the upcoming Chuseok holiday next week until Sept. 29, the company said.

The event will be held throughout all of the brand’s 390 outlets nationwide.

With the recent outdoor activity boom here, the company said, more customers are eyeing outdoor goods for holiday gifts for Korean Thanksgiving Day, one of the biggest family gatherings.

Some of the biggest-selling items are clothes made of the company’s proprietary fabric, contra-tex, which is waterproof and also allows air to be easily absorbed.

Unlike many domestic brands that use expensive and imported materials for their products, The Red Face developed contra-tex 10 years ago and has been using it exclusively since then.

Other self-developed fabrics are EX-Cool & Dry, designed for quick drying, and EX-Silver, created for hygiene.

The Korean outdoor brand was founded in 1966, starting with rock climbing shoes. Then the company merged with clothing manufacturer RF in 2000 in a bid to expand its presence in the total outdoor market.

The company logged 150 billion won ($140 million) in sales last year. This year it is aiming for 200 billion won.
