Singer Lee Hyori, who recently tied the knot with guitarist Lee Sang-soon, released photographs taken on her wedding day and released a brief statement about the simple ceremony on her official fan website, Hyori Together, on Tuesday.

“We were worried that it would rain, but the weather was nice. We and a few of our friends worked hard for a few days preparing for the wedding but in the end it was a meaningful and fun day,” Hyori wrote, adding, “I want to thank everyone who cheered us on and gave us congratulatory messages.”

The couple gained the public’s attention for distinguishing themselves from other celebrity couples who often hold lavish wedding ceremonies with hundreds of guests and then fly off to luxurious honeymoon destinations.

The small wedding ceremony was held on the couple’s private property on Jeju Island, with only their immediate family and a select number of their closest friends in attendance. The security was tight and no press was allowed inside the property.

“As much as this day is the most important day in my life, I wanted to spend it with close friends and family as an ordinary daughter and daughter-in-law. I hope all of you understand,” she said.

Instead of picking hotels and resorts in luxurious destinations for their honeymoon, the couple has reportedly opted for a simple backpacking trip to Europe some time in mid-September.
