Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, the world’s top two television makers, have been selected for several awards from the European Imaging and Sound Association, the companies said in respective statements on Thursday.

LG Electronics was chosen for the European Design TV accolade for its curved OLED TVs for a second consecutive year.

The curved OLED TV features a slightly curved, IMAX-like screen with a super-slim design of just 4mm. The ergonomic curve of the screen offers a more immersive viewing experience, according to the company and industry watchers.

“It’s always an honor to be recognized by an association as well regarded as EISA,” said Kwon Il-geun, head of LG Electronics’ Home Entertainment Research Center.

“This award is an acknowledgement of LG’s success in bringing innovative designs and technologies into the homes of today’s discerning consumers.”

Samsung Electronics’ products were picked for EISA awards in different categories including Smart TV, mirrorless smart camera and handsets.

EISA judges felt Samsung’s Smart TV F8000 series stood out from the competition, particularly because of its “Smart Recommendation” function which suggests content based on viewer patterns and preferences, and “Smart Hub,” allowing users to conveniently select channels as if flipping through a magazine.

“F8000 is a product which seems to have a brain,” said EISA. “It is a versatile home-entertainment hub.”

Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy NX, S4, and S4 Mini, meanwhile, swept the awards in the category of handsets this year. The world’s largest smartphone maker has won awards for its mobile phones for seven consecutive years.

Internationally respected, the EISA Awards recognize products in the consumer electronics industry. Selected by 50 audio and video magazines from across 19 European countries, the winning products are assessed in terms of design, technology and innovation.
