South Korea’s largest carmaker Hyundai Motor Co. said Thursday that its sales jumped 9.4 percent in July from a year earlier as its strong overseas sales helped offset a slight drop in the domestic market.

Hyundai sold 363,251 vehicles in July, compared with 332,176 units in the same month in 2012, the company said in a statement.

Its domestic sales dipped 1.1 percent on-year to 59,302 vehicles last month, while overseas sales jumped 11.7 percent to 303,949 units, according to the carmaker.

The sales of Kia Motors Corp., Korea’s second-biggest automaker, edged up only 1.7 percent due to reduced production.

Ssangyong Motor Co., the local unit of Indian sports utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said that its sales jumped 28.5 percent on strong sales at home and abroad.

But Renault Samsung Motors, the local unit of French automaker Renault SA, said that its sales dropped 7.1 percent. Domestic sales edged up 1.7 percent on-year to 5,089 units, while exports dipped 14.6 percent to 4,995 units, according to the carmaker.

GM Korea, the local unit of U.S. automaker General Motors Co., said that its sales declined 23.8 percent from a year earlier. GM Korea sold 46,257 vehicles in July, compared with 60,720 units a year earlier.
