NCAA basketball game set for U.S. military base in S. Korea

U.S. college basketball fever will spring from an unlikely place this season -- an American military base in South Korea.
The Georgetown Hoyas and Oregon Ducks will face off at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, about 70 kilometers south of Seoul, on Nov. 8, according to the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
The upcoming match is part of ESPN's Armed Forces Classic series honoring the men and women who are serving and who have served in the U.S. military, both at home and abroad.
"We are honored to be selected to participate in the 2013 Armed Forces Classic,”Georgetown head coach John Thompson said, according to the NCAA.“The opportunity to play at Camp Humphreys in South Korea is unique and special. It will be a privilege to perform in front of the men and women who serve and protect our country. The game is important, but above and beyond the competition, it will be an unparalleled learning experience for all in our program.”
The game will be played in the Army's three-story, 100,000-square-foot Community Fitness Center, which is being developed as a new hub for the 28,500 U.S. troops in South Korea.
“Camp Humphreys is extremely proud to host this year's Armed Forces Classic,”Col. Darin S. Conkright, the base commander, was quoted as saying.“I can't think of a better way to provide the soldiers and families stationed here on Freedom's Frontier a taste of home than through a sporting event of this magnitude.” (Yonhap News)
