Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest flat-panel TV maker, retained its status as the top seller of TVs in the North American market in the first half of the year, a market research firm said Sunday.

In terms of revenue, Samsung Electronics posted a share of 29.4 percent in the North American flat-panel TV Market in the January-June period, according to data by NPD Group.

Vizio of the U.S. came in second with a 15.9 percent share, followed by LG Electronics Co. of South Korea with 11.3 percent and Sharp Corp. of Japan with 7.2 percent.

Samsung trumped competitors in all TV segments, with its market share reaching 26.9 percent in liquid crystal display TVs, 54.2 percent in plasma display panel TVs, 36.1 percent in smart TVs and 45.7 percent in 3-D TVs, according to the data.

In particular, Samsung Electronics garnered a 33.4 percent share of the market for 60-inch or larger TVs, up 6.1 percentage points from the same period a year earlier.

Samsung Electronics’ dominance in the North American TV market was attributed to the company’s efforts to respond rapidly to changing trends through the expansion of large TVs and to promote the sale of premium products.

Early this year, Samsung Electronics unveiled 85-inch ultra-high definition TV sets, while rolling out 65-inch and 55-inch UHD TVs early this month in an effort to beef up its premium TV lineup. (Yonhap News)
