최근 인터넷을 뜨겁게 달군 “한국 클럽녀 조롱 영상,”에 대한 해명을 원하는 목소리가 두명 더 늘어났다.

외국 남성들이 클럽에서 술에 취한 한국인 여성에게 욕설을 퍼부으며 성희롱을 하는 동영상이 인터넷을 떠돌면서 파문을 일으키고 있는 가운데, 저번 주 동영상의 영상 제작자와 출연 외국인 두명이 코리아헤럴드에게 이 영상은 “단편영화의 일부,”라고 해명하며 신체적 기형을 지닌 사람들을 대하는 불합리성을 고발하고자 했다고 밝힌 바 있다.

이에 더해, 영화제작 과정에 있어서 통역가 역할을 했다는 여성과, 영화출연 외국인 중 한명을 감독과 알선해주었다는 여성이 나서 해당 영상에 대한 해명에 나섰다.

“제 친구(영화제작자)가 영화에 출연할만한 외국인을 아느냐고 물어봐서 제가 몇 명 소개해 줬어요,”라고 통역가라고 주장한 여성이 말했다.

그녀의 말에 따르면 이 단편영화 제작에는 두 명의 한국 영화제작자와 외국인 배우 두명, 그리고 한국 여성 모델 한 명으로 총 다섯 명이 참여했다고 한다. 또한 두 명의 한국인 영화 제작자는 과거부터 한국에서 프로듀서로서의 유명세를 얻고 싶어했다고 말했다.

“…그는 유명해지고 싶어했어요. 그가 원한 건 그게 다에요. 그래서 동영상이 실제상황처럼 보일 수 있지만, 사실은 조작된 거에요,”라고 그녀가 덧붙였다.

또한 통역가라 주장한 이 여성은 그들의 영화가 이렇게 큰 논란을 일으킬 줄 몰랐으며, 외국인 배우를 섭외하는데 있어서도 어떠한 의도된 근거는 없었다고 했다.

두 번째 익명의 여인 또한, 그녀의 친구를 알선해줄 때, 이렇게 큰 파장을 일으킬 줄 몰랐다고 했다. 그녀는 코리아헤럴드에 그녀 자신과 그가 알선해준 친구와의 대화창을 캡쳐한 사진을 보내주었는데, 해당 영상제작을 인정한 감독 중 한 명의 번호를 그녀의 친구에게 알려주고 있는 내용이 담겨있었다.

통역가로 주장하는 여성과 출연 외국인 배우 두 명은 논란의 영상은 이태원에 위치한 배드램 바에서 찍었다고 했다.

이에 더해, 목요일에는 익명을 요구한 영상 제작자중 한 명이 이 동영상의 의도에 대해 좀더 구체적으로 설명했다.

“영화의 주제는 사회적으로 고립된 소수자들의 삶이었어요. 그들이 각자 끔찍하고 비참한 기억들을 하나씩 들추어내면서 회상하는 장면이 있는데, 그 회상 장면 중 하나가 논란이 되고 있는 부분이에요. 잊고 싶은 과거의 한 장면으로 나오는 거지요,”라고 그는 말했다.

또한, 그는 영화의 러닝타임은 총 15분 정도이며 공개된 영상 속 배우 외에 따른 배우들도 등장한다고 말했다. 주기적으로 만드는 “캐주얼”한 영화 중 하나였기 때문에 전체 영화가 담긴 파일은 남아 있지 않다고 말했다. 영화 출연 배우들의 신상은 거듭해서 공개하기를 거부했다.

이들이 만든 영상은 선정성과 폭력성, 그리고 한국 여성을 조롱하는 태도와 관련해서 인터넷 유저들을 분노케 했으며, 출연 한국 여성에 대해 “외국 남자에 집착”한다며 강도 놓은 비난을 하게 하기도 했다.

Club abuse video done for fame: alleged interpreter

A woman has claimed she was an interpreter on the shoot of a viral Internet video that appears to show a group of Western men sexually harassing a woman in a nightclub but has since had its authenticity challenged.

A second woman also told The Korea Herald that she had put one of the foreign men in the video in touch with its creators. The woman said she is a mutual acquaintance of the alleged interpreter and one of the foreign actors.

The two women are the fourth and fifth people to claim that the video, which has been reported on by local and foreign media including the Chosun Ilbo, the Washington Post and Daily Mail, was staged.

“My friend (the filmmaker) asked me if knew some foreigners so I introduced my friends to them,” the alleged interpreter said on Friday, claiming that she had previously worked with one of the actors at a popular expatriate bar in Seoul.

According to the woman, five people apart from herself were involved in the film: two foreign actors, two Korean filmmakers and a Korean model.

She said that the two filmmakers had hoped to gain fame as producers of user-created content had done in the past in Korea.

“He wanted to be famous. That’s all he wanted. So that’s why the video looks like it is real. But it’s not real,” she said.

She said she had been “surprised” that the video had generated such interest and was unaware of there being any particular rationale behind the recruitment of foreigners for the film.

The second woman said she had no idea the film would feature disturbing content when she asked her friend if he would like to be involved. The Korea Herald has seen screenshots of online correspondence between the two in which the former provides the alleged actor with the phone number of the filmmaker who has admitted his involvement.

According to the alleged interpreter and the two foreign men claiming to have appeared in the film, the disputed video was shot at Bedlam Bar in Itaewon in Seoul.

Last week, two foreign men and a Korean filmmaker told The Korea Herald that the video had been filmed as part of a short film portraying society’s intolerance of physical imperfections and was completely fictional.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the alleged filmmaker, who has refused to have his name appear in media, further explained his intention behind the video that has caused uproar in Korea and around the world.

“It is a story of socially isolated people. The scene released is not a big part of the whole film,” said the man who had one of his films appear in a local film competition last year.

“The main theme of the film is about the few socially isolated people, depicting each one’s dreadful -- sad or painful -- reminiscences. And their memories come as flashbacks -- as a scene -- during the film. The video scene was one of the flashbacks and it was a memory of what a person had experienced in the club, and they wish for it to be forgotten.”

The filmmaker said the full film came to around 15 minutes and featured others actors besides those in the viral clip. He added that he had no remaining footage because it was made as part of a casual filmmaking group that regularly made low-fi videos. He repeatedly declined to reveal the identities of anyone else involved in the film.

He noted that he had been contacted by the video’s alleged actress in anger after it went viral but that she had subsequently changed her number and fallen out of contact.

The video, which depicts the men filming an apparently drunk woman’s chest and legs and forcing her own finger up her nose and into her mouth, caused outrage among Internet users in Korea and abroad. Some Internet users here attacked the men involved, while others accused the woman of embarrassing her country or being “obsessed” with foreign men.
