Park Jong-woo and Shin Seung-hyeon are the two youngest male players on the bowling national team. On Tuesday evening the pair took the match against the Japanese team in the finals for the men’s doubles to finally claim team Korea‘s first gold medal.
“I am not nervous, but it is true that the Japanese team has done steadily well throughout the games, maintaining a high score,” remarked 23-yeard-old Shin before the final.
“There are great aspects if a tournament is held in my home country, but since there are more people watching, I do feel slight pressure,” he said.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old Park expressed a sense of responsibility stemming from the Games’ hosting in Korea.
The duo showed a sublime performance during the finals, winning by a 43-pin margin. Shin struck eight times to sum up to 257, while Park, with a few splits finished with 185. The team defeated Japan 442-400.
“Being both of our debut Games for the Korean national team, our gold medal is special,” said Park.
After the Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games, the national team heads straight to Daejeon for an international open and then to Nevada, USA for the World Championships in August.
