Two Koreans advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s singles bowling event at the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon on Monday.
The national team‘s youngest bowler Hwang Yeon-ju comfortably topped the women’s singles preliminary round, advancing to the knockout stage as top seed.
The 21-year-old was 25 pins behind her teammate Son Yun-hee until the second game, but rolled a strong 267 in the third game to take the lead, while Son had a disappointing 189. Hwang finished the last two games with 236 and 199 to finish with 1354.
Singapore’s Shi Jing Tan was second with 1336, advancing to the quarterfinals later on Monday. Korea’s defending champion Son fired 212 and 203 in games five and six to finish third with 1296.
China’s Dongdong Chen finished fourth with 1294 after six games. Korea’s Lee Na-young and Jung Da-wun, who rolled a total of 1279 and 1271, respectively, failed to make the quarterfinals since the completion rules allow only two bowlers from each country to play in the quarterfinals.
The other four players advancing to the knock-out stage are: Yuhong Zhang in fifth place with 1265, Misaki Mukotani in sixth with 1259, Sharon Limansantoso of Indonesia in seventh with 1247 and Krizziah Tabora in eighth spot with 1229.
Fifty-four women from 20 countries are competing in the women‘s singles event, which kicked off at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the Hogye Gymnasium in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province.
The top eight finishers are to meet in the knock-out stage at 13:30 p.m. The final is scheduled for 14:50 p.m. on Monday.
