South Korea’s electronics giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics both announced on Monday that their TV products sold in Europe have recently received green technology certifications.

Samsung’s Smart TV F8000 series was certified by Nemko, a Norwegian safety standard and regulation authority, while LG’s 55-inch curved OLED TV received certification from the U.K.-based Intertek for its eco-friendly technology and use of materials, the company officials said.

Samsung and LG are now able to utilize the “Green Mark” and “Green Leaf Mark,” respectively, in marketing their products.

LG’s curved OLED TV also received an Eco-label issued by the European Commission recently, after passing a strict set of production and environmental standard tests, according to the company.

The EU Eco-label certifies that particular products are environmentally friendly and cause no health hazards to humans.

The F8000 series by Samsung contains neither paint material nor mercury so consumers can more conveniently recycle later on, the company said.

With a continuing success in the European market, Samsung expects that the F8000 series will help it retain the world’s No. 1 sales record for the eighth consecutive year.

Samsung’s F8000 series and LG’s curved OLED TV are both known for utilizing energy-saving technologies, which can reduce electricity usage by nearly 60 percent.

Both Nemko and Intertek are internationally recognized certification firms with test labs and branches in hundreds of cities around the world.
