필리핀에서 한국인 1명이 또 총격을 받아 숨지는 사건이 발생했다.

29일 필리핀 주재 한국대사관 등에 따르면 정모씨가 이날 오후 3시30분(현지시간) 중부 세부섬의 한 커피숍 주변에서 오토바이에 탄 괴한 2명의 총격을 받고 그 자리에서 숨졌다.

정씨는 당시 커피숍에서 한국인 동료들과 차를 마시고 나오다 미리 대기하고 있던 범인들의 총격을 받은 것으로 파악됐다.

경찰과 목격자들은 필리핀 현지인들로 보이는 범인들이 정씨를 향해 4∼6발의 총탄을 발사한 뒤 오토바이를 타고 도주했다고 말했다.

정 씨는 머리 부위에만 2발의 총탄을 맞은 것으로 확인됐다. 정 씨의 현지인 운전사 역시 범인들의 총격으로 부상, 인근 병원으로 옮겨져 치료를 받고 있다.

숨진 정 씨는 2000년대 초반 필리핀에 정착했으며 세부섬의 대형 카지노 주변에서 환전 업무를 주로 해온 것으로 알려졌다.

경찰은 일단 청부 살인 가능성에 무게를 두고 주변인들과 목격자들을 상대로 수사를 벌이고 있다.

필리핀에서는 지난 23일 새벽에도 마닐라에 살던 안 모씨가 귀갓길에 괴한을 총격을 받고 다음날 사망했다.

정씨와 안씨를 포함해 올들어 필리핀에서 총격을 받고 사망한 한국인은 모두 3명으로 파악됐다.

지난해에는 필리핀서 피살된 한국인이 모두 8명으로 전 세계에서 범죄로 숨진 한국인 27명 중 약 3분의1을 차지했다.

필리핀은 당국의 총기규제가 허술한 데다 치안마저 불안해 청부살인과 납치 등을 포함한 강력사건들이 꼬리를 물고 있다. (연합뉴스)

Another South Korean shot dead in Philippines

A South Korean man was shot dead in the Philippines on Saturday, said the South Korean embassy in Cebu City.

The victim surnamed Jeong was shot twice in the head by two unidentified assailants around 3:00 p.m. (local time) on his way out after having a cup of tea with his colleagues. Jeong died on the spot.

According to the local police and witnesses, the two gunmen who were seemingly Filipinos took off on their motorbikes after firing five to six times toward Jeong and his driver. Jeong‘s driver was injured in the shooting and taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Jeong, who has lived in the Philippines since 2000, was working at a small currency-exchange shop near a casino in Cebu. The police suspected the motive of the murder to be related to a contract killing.

This is the third time this year for a South Korean to be shot dead in the Philippines. In 2012, eight South Koreans were murdered in the Philippines, accounting for some 30 percent of all South Koreans who were victimized in international murder cases worldwide.
