The Wilhelmshohe mountainside park has been designated the 38th UNESCO World Heritage site in Germany. Europe’s biggest hillside park is recognized as a unique cultural monument, blending art, technology and architecture. The park, covering 240 hectares, includes numerous sights such as fountains, Wilhelmshohe Palace, the great Hercules statue and the ruins of Lowenburg Castle, a rare example of neo-Gothic architecture. The park puts on water displays at the foot of the Hercules monument from May 1 to Oct. 3, which creates a beautiful scene in an English-style landscape garden. The German National Tourist Office offers detailed information on the UNESCO World Heritage-designated sites at www.germany.travel/unesco, where visitors can see panoramic views of them.
